Ashley's Hard Day

                                            Ashley's Hard Day(part 1)

                                                                        1

Ashley sat in front of her boss's desk while he chewed her a new one. It was the usual stuff he says when her partner screws up and she takes the blame. You know, “Someone's gotta answer for this mistake..” and “We can't afford to lose anymore client cause of morons in the workplace”. “This was a great way to end the week”, she thought. Somehow she kept taking the flak for Jimmy's mistakes. Jimmy was a weasel like that, all charm and play. One of these days, she wasn't going to take the blame, and really show him she wasn't such a push over. She stopped listening to the angry boss for one moment to make a mental note,“Note to self, Jimmy's new Christmas present is laxative brownies. Be sure to have extra for boss.”

Then her boss chimed in,”Ashley, are you even paying attention to what I'm saying? We cannot afford another mistake from you. Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth???” Ashley nodded. She forced a smile and said the usual bullshit he liked to hear such as “Oh, it wont happen again boss, so sorry” and “I'll make sure this is the last time, your highness. My lips are pressed against your ass from here on out! Roger dodger?!”. Perhaps, She didn't say the latter, but she sure wanted to.

She got out of the wooden chair with a stiffness to her body, and walked to her office. It always amazed her how long winded her boss was, and how long she had to sit there and focus. She found herself trailing off lately with her thoughts. It seemed harder and harder for her to focus on the task at hand. As usual, when she found herself nodding off, she took a trip to the coffeemaker and pour herself a cup. This time she poured Jimmy a cup, since he worked so hard on getting her in trouble, perhaps he made himself thirsty.

When she got to her cubicle, She made sure to walk on the path around Jimmy's cubicle and the edge of the cubicle, which happen to align perfectly with Jimmy's crotch. She made sure to smile as she ran over to hand him his cup, just before the incident. “Oops! Clumsy me! I tripped”, she said to him. He got her message loud and clear. After finishing up some loose ends on her current project for a client, she left for the day.

She decided to grab another cup of specialty coffee from her favorite coffeehouse called Sacred Grounds. She hadn't been there in a month since her new promotion, and she thought it would be a real treat after a hard day of dealing with bullshit.

                                                                   2

Ashley managed to snag a sweet parking spot in front of Sacred Grounds. She noticed that the place was unusually full for the time of day. Perhaps, The owner finally managed to put out some decent advertisements and hired some talent. She was excited to see what was so new that it brought all these people in.

She entered and it was like she was transported to the 80's new wave scene. There was more  black dyed hair than a Cure concert. She looked at the chalk board to see if there was any specials, but instead there was a scribbled image of a skull and a band name”Dead Girl”. Coffee to go, she whispered to herself.

Someone walked by and grabbed her. He spoke in a somber tone as if he was stoned,”Are you lost? Alice?” She blinked and then pulled herself away. “No, sir, I am errrr found and I'm not Alice. ”. Making a break for the door, she muttered,”The coffee isn't that good to endure emo teens and stoners.” She pulled out of the parking like a bat out of hell with a mouth full of cuss words, and a sour attitude. She imagined a hot bath as a alternative to relaxing cup of coffee.

When she got home, she noticed someone had marked her car with some strange graffiti. She paused a moment to think of happy thoughts and all that stuff she was taught in her meditation class, but the exercise did not work very well. She got mad! The neighborhood could hear her vulgar language very clearly, but after a couple moments Ashley decided slamming her front door, throwing her project papers into a corner, and running a hot bath was a better option. She didn't want the neighbors to commit her to the looney bin just yet.

After she filled the bathtub with water, She slipped into the bathtub and laid her back. She forced all of her anger thoughts out of her head, which was a struggle in itself, and began to relax. She embraced the warm feeling of the water and she began to feel as if she was floating in air. Then, something broke her serene relaxed state, she heard the front open. “Hello?”, she screamed. “I got a gun! I'm calling 911 right now!” No one was supposed to be here, she lived alone after all. When she got up to reach for her cell, she looked up at her mirror and paused in her tracks. The mirror was fogged up , but the mirror also had writing that read,”Hello Alice!”

To be continued........ next installment of this story coming soon.

My Engine Revs for You!

                            My Engine Revs for You
                                     by:Quinton Tillery

Pinned against the wall,
I could feel the cold brick
against my naked warm pink skin,
A car's engine idled just out of my sight,
but I just ignored it,
I didn't care cause tonight was about letting go.
Strike one.

I was with a gentleman,
but, The gentlemen wasn't a gentleman at all,
and that's exactly what I was looking for.
As he moved his hands over my body and clawed at me like a sailor on shore leave,
I could hear the engine in the distance revving,
But I didn't bother to look beyond what's in front of me to see the car,
Strike two.

As the gentleman unsnapped my bra,
I moved my knickers down,
There was no sense in being coy at that moment,
even when I was blinded by the light of a car's headlights,
I was out of breathe and couldn't catch my fleeting thoughts,
So I could not make out the car.....at least not until it was too late.
Strike Three.

As the car rammed into the two of us,
The brick wall and I became one just for a moment in time,
and I knew for a split second in time what it's like to be hard as stone,
Much like my ex-husband who didn't know the meaning love,
only the pursuit and the chase...the game of cat and scared mouse...the cycle that never ends,
And always so dense and thick as brick never taking “no” or “it's over” for an answer.

Surprise Dinner

               Surprise, It’s not Dinner!
                       By:Quinton Tillery

Kim knew tonight was special, so she cooked her husband a nice dinner. She knew he had been working lots of overtime in the last couple months so they could afford nice things. Despite all the late night phone calls from his boss and the lengthy business trips, she always stood by him and his work. She knew that his paycheck did not come easy, and she didn’t want to be one of those wives who made her husband choose his career over her. She’d probably lose that battle, so Kim waited patiently for her husband to get home from his recent trip and surprise him with a nice homemade dinner.

When her husband got home, he complements Kim on her appearance and told her she was sexy like he always does. Then, she sits him down and gives him his plate of lemon chicken with rice and summer squash. When Kim sat down, she did not take a bite of her food, but instead she looks at him with a passionate gaze as he gasps and holds his throat. Then, He goes limp as his face falls flat into the plate of food.
Kim smiles at the scene. She gets up from her place at the table and walks over to her husband’s coat, and then she pulls out her husband’s cellphone to check the latest text messages. She finds the one labeled “boss”. She reads the messages sent between them since she found them two weeks ago. The new messages read…
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Husband: I can’t wait for the weekend to have you in my arms…..
Boss: Great, I look forward to our “business trip”. I’ll send the wife flowers in your name for your 10 anniversary. It should smooth things over with her like always. Ttyl, sexy.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kim opens a new message to respond. She types, “Wife had to be with family due to emergency, let’s take advantage of her absence. Just come in, Door will be unlocked. ” She only had to wait two minutes for a response back.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Boss: Great! On my way then.
Husband: Wonderful…..I got a special surprise waiting for you!!!

A Bird of a Different Feather. By Quinton Tillery

I sat there perched on a branch looking down at the couple as they setup for a picnic under the moonlight. It's funny how they never noticed me up in that tree. But, I guess the two of them were busy lost in their haze of romance and love. Even at that height, I could hear thier two heartbeats as they embraced each others for kisses. It was true love. I had that once.

I used to walk up just before sunlight, and I'd make a surprise breakfasts in bed or I'd leave silly love poems under the pillow when I knew it would be a late day at work.....but those days have been gone for a long time. The time I felt love has been so far distant that I can barely remember my love's face.

It was a night like this that I was changed forever. In fact, It was this very tree that some monster sat in and watched me and my love dine under a full moon. Like them, We paid no attention to tree, but we did hear the squawks and the shifting of branches. We only thought it was some restless bird. How right we were! But, This bird was hungry and had quite the appetite for my love. And as I laid there injured from the scratches and the gashes from it's talons, I could feel my world fade as it ripped into her like a large carrion bird. I passed out either from the trauma or the loss of blood;I'm still not sure. But, I awoke. Damn, I wished many times that I didn't survive....I wished the creature would come back and finish me off. He did kill me. Ruined me and left me with a curse like his.

I'm all but a lonely bird now. Filled with a love-sickness and a hunger that doesn't stop. "Squakkkk...Squakkk!"
